At the brocante

 Well, yes, we had to bribe the kids to come along .....

Rodemack brocante

The weather forecast was excellent for today, so my husband and I headed over to France to the beautiful medieval village of Rodemack. We visited the village before, but today was the first time we went there for the brocante.







The medieval walls are almost perfectly preserved.



I bought this old printer's tray for "dix euros". I was still looking for one to hang on the wall in my studio.



And this Victorian pitcher/decanter with silver plated top was only "huit euros". It was just the one that was missing in my small collection. Sometimes a girl just gets lucky!





What I loved but didn't buy was this French porcelain. The color was so beautifully faded.

I really love the fact that we can leave the kids at home now with their brothers for a couple of hours (because none of them appreciates the brocante and they are hungry, thirsty, hot, bored or have to go to the toilet all the time).

Brocante in Arlon

It has been several months since we last went to the "brocante" in Arlon, but yesterday we left the kids with the boys at home and headed for Belgium, just the two of us.

^ This was a really lovely dress form in a good condition, but I already have three...



^ Do you know what this is? We didn't and we had to ask. It is for keeping your medals dust free.

^ We have no clue what this is and we forgot to ask. One of my sons thought it could be a massage roller, but it is so big (for an elephant maybe :-))

^ This pitcher came home with us to add to my small collection.

^ On our way back we saw this beautiful flower bed. Oh my, I wish my garden looked like that!

Vieille France

We found the antique shop "Vieille France" by coincidence and it was so worth the visit. The Dutch owner has built a beautiful house in French style, completely furnished and decorated. It is like a museum, the difference being that everything is for sale.



I couldn't resist this "pot de grès" in exactly the right color.

School cupboard

For our house extension I dreamt about a large, old cupboard. I love cupboards with glass doors to keep all my stuff. It took me weeks to find this old school cupboard in the Netherlands (www.oldbasics.nl). I had it come to Luxembourg and it stayed in our garage for months (we hardly ever have room in our garage for the cars). I was so happy to clean and decorate it last weekend.

Country Chique

Whenever I plan visiting the Netherlands, I use the opportunity to send parcels to my sister and my parents to save on shipping cost. One of my all time favorite Dutch antique shops is Country Chique. It is run by Angélique and her husband. They travel to England, France and Belgium regulary and always bring home the loveliest pieces of antique.



Last time I was in Holland, I had a huge parcel from Angélique waiting for me at my father's place. I love to unpack parcels, even when I know what's inside.



It contained this beautiful tin hat box. I love hat boxes. It fascinates me that women would carry around such a big tin just to protect their hats.



I have a small collection of hat boxes, but I have never seen one like this before. I think the lettering definitely adds character to the box. Who were you, Grace Truett?



Another tin. It has "Adelphi Theatre" painted on top. When I googled this name, I found out that the theatre was built in 1806 in London and still exists. How cool is that!
