Pictures of our home

I love to decorate. I am always moving things around. Most of our furniture is pre-owned. Some of the most beautiful pieces come from my late mother-in-law's attic. I love old family pictures and my great-grandfather's paintings. I love going to flea markets and searching for just the right piece on the internet.

And I love taking pictures!

Old wash table from France

We are still moving around the furniture. This is one of my favorite pieces. I bought it in the Netherlands and we somehow got it into the car and brought it home to Luxembourg. The lady I bought it from told me it came from an old farmhouse in France and they had quite some trouble getting it in their car as well. It used to be in our bedroom, but I thought it deserved a better place. I am going to have some old black/white photos framed to make it complete.

Linen

When my mother-in-law passed away 5 years ago, we - her three daughters-in-law - inherited a closet full of real linen: bed sheets, duvet covers, table linen, napkins, pillow covers..... Today I started sorting out my share.

Such lovely little details, all handmade.

My mother-in-law's monograms A.H., all handstitched.

That old farmhouse held so many treasures!

My new favorite spot in the house

I think this is my new favorite spot in the house. There is so much light, even on a dark day like today. We are still not sure if we want to hang the old curtains or not.

Brocante finds

I still owe you the photos of our brocante tour in Arlon two weeks ago.

A beautiful old wooden towel rack for 12 euro...

...and 8 lovely old jam jars with different patterns.

The wooden box comes from the Netherlands, I'll probably use it for the firewood once the renovation is done.

Bank safe deposit tins

I don't like plastic containers, so I am always looking for alternatives to store my stuff. I found these on one of my favorite Dutch antique/brocante sites. They are bank safe deposit tins. I love the copper handles!

Have a nice weekend everybody.

Fire

Just before dark, we took a potato salad and some sausages outside and grilled them on the fire. It was so nice, quiet and warm in the garden. I am really happy to live in the countryside.

Headboard

Marcia asked me to post about the headboard in yesterday's post.

^ It is really simple, we used a curtain rod like we have in our living room.

^ My husband made it shorter to fit the width of the bed.

^ We had the pillows made in a curtain shop, but if you know how to sew (I don't, but I know you do Marcia!) I don't think these are difficult to make.

And when they are dirty, I can take them off easily and wash them.

Have a nice weekend everybody.

Master bedroom

I really like our bedroom ...

... the frames with old family photos ...

... the chocolate color on the walls ...

... the baskets beside the beds ...

... the antique clothes stand in the corner ...

... there is just one little problem ... the light! It has been like this for months years. We had some spots in the beginning but they didn't match the room anymore. I am still hoping to find a really nice chandelier one day.

My decluttering project

I am a woman on a mission. I am not sure if it is because spring is in the air, or the sure knowledge that the builders will soon start tearing down the walls of my living room, but I have the feeling that I have too much stuff! I have decided to do a serious decluttering job around the house. This means that I am planning to let every single piece in the whole house go through my hands, so that I can decide whether to keep or get rid of it.

I started with the cupboard where the children keep their games and puzzles. I have only kept what is complete, undamaged and what the kids actually like to play with. Not a bad way to start the week.

Pain and clutter

I had a hard week. It started out with a bad pain in my left shoulder and numbness in my left arm and hand. I went to the doctor and was sent to hospital for an X-ray and an MRI. I have a whole bunch of pills to take but I'm still not feeling so much better. I am afraid it's a hernia. It seems like every muscle in my back aches. When the situation is not going to improve during the weekend, I'll have to go back to the doctor on Monday. Lying down hurts more than sitting or standing so I have tried to keep myself busy and not think about it too much. I thought decluttering the house would be a good distraction and I filled one bag after the other with paper, broken and incomplete toys and other stuff I didn't need anymore. My husband brought it to the recycle centre this morning and at least that made me feel a little bit better!

Today I am linking to Allemaal kleurtjes for "Stapelen op vrijdag" (the site is in Dutch but there is a translator), showing you my stack of easter nests in the garden.
