We planted new strawberry plants last year and the crop is enormous. We started picking today.

Garden
I have observed a strange phenomenon in Luxembourg, this small country I am calling home. When children start preparing for their Communion in 3rd grade, parents get really nervous. It is a family celebration and everybody wants his house to look nice and clean for the big day. So they start building......and painting......
......and gardening.
The last time I remember the garden being so beautiful was when we had to take pictures for our adoption profile ;-).
(We'll have another Communion in two years).

Rhubarb
I love the first rhubarb of the year!
We planted some new plants last year and they have become really LARGE.
I peeled 6 lbs this afternoon.
My father is visiting from Holland and I want to make a rhubarb pie for tomorrow.

Fire
Just before dark, we took a potato salad and some sausages outside and grilled them on the fire. It was so nice, quiet and warm in the garden. I am really happy to live in the countryside.

Under the apple trees
The children have a week off from school and the weather was just beautiful! This is my favorite spot in the garden, under the apple trees and close enough to watch the kids play in our small "pool".
And I found the new issue of "Where women create" in the mailbox. Perfect timing!

Rhubarb pie
When I walked through the garden (or what is left of it) this morning and I saw my rhubarb plants starting to show the first leaves, I realised I was still having several bags of last year's harvest in my freezer. Time to make a rhubarb pie!

Operation "Viz"
Part of the land surrounding the old farmhouse, where my husband was brought up and my brother-in-law and his family now live, is an orchard. Yesterday was a beautiful, sunny fall day, perfect for apple picking. My husband and the children came back home with several baskets full of apples. This afternoon, after work, the men started crushing and pressing. It is 9 pm now, they have just finished and we have 90 litres of freshly pressed apple juice - called "Viz" in Luxembourgish - in the freezer!

Vacation, too many children in the house, too much laundry, Christina (my sweet, responsible, very hardworking cleaning lady from Portugal) left for a four-week-visit to her home country and rain, rain, rain.....
